Italy 2028

Italy 2028 was our first game, run in September 2024. Playing off ongoing reforms to Italian electoral law, it explored a basically-implausible near-future Italian Civil War as an excuse to investigate modern medium-intensity hybrid conflict.

Nine players participated in game, controlling various elements in the Italian Armed Forces, the Government-backed Paramilitary, and the armed forces of assorted intervening powers. In summary, the Nationalist north managed an astonishingly total victory, simply by coordinating more effectively. Under realistic time constraints, sufficently complex conditions favour the side that acts quickly and efficiently. There is no time for the perfect plan: only good-enough plans, hastily assembled, provoking maximum confusion in the enemy.

The general archive for the campaign can be downloaded here. Since this was our first game, we were still experimenting with technologies: we had used google's online My Maps tool. The maps are therefore somewhat incomplete, excluding hidden elements like Insurgents. In our next game, we moved to multilayered KMZ files.
